“In April 1880, at the age of 64, John Charles Ryle was consecrated as the first Bishop of Liverpool, a new urban diocese carved out of the diocese of Chester. At a stage in life when many clergymen eagerly await retirement, he was launched into a fresh and demanding field of ministry.
He was already well-known on the national stage as a conference speaker and a prodigious writer of evangelistic tracts which sold in their millions. Since 1844 Ryle’s regular parish ministry had been in rural Suffolk, first in the village of Helmingham (with a population of only 287) and then at Stradbroke (one of the largest and wealthiest parishes in Norwich diocese, with a population of 1500). Liverpool was a completely new challenge…
Taking all the Christian denominations together, eighty per cent of the population still remained unchurched. …”

Acting Metropolitan of the Province of NSW and Bishop of Canberra & Goulburn, Stuart Robinson, says of Archbishop-Elect Davies, “He will, I believe, unify our Province – and be a blessing to the national church”. Dr. Davies will be present at the Goulburn Cathedral Convention in January.
Archbishop of Melbourne, Dr Philip Freier –
“On behalf of Melbourne Anglicans I welcome Archbishop Davies’ appointment, and assure him of our prayers and good wishes as he begins this important ministry in Sydney and the Anglican Church of Australia.”
Primate and Brisbane Archbishop Phillip Aspinall also welcomes Sydney’s new Archbishop.
“Glenn is a well known and regarded contributor to the life of the national Church, having served on both the General Synod Standing Committee and the national Doctrine Commission for many years.”

The Anglican Church League warmly congratulates Archbishop-Elect Glenn Davies on his election as the 12th Archbishop of Sydney and assures him, and his wife Dianne, of our prayers and support as we together seek to win Sydney for Christ.
We look forward to a continued strong relationship with Archbishop Davies, who is also an Emeritus Vice President of the League. Dr. Davies will be installed as Archbishop on Friday 23rd August in St. Andrew’s Cathedral.

Dean of the Cathedral, Phillip Jensen, calls members of the Cathedral congregation, and all reading this, to pray for the election Synod.
“Prayer always brings glory to God, as we express our confidence in his willingness and ability to help us as well as his interest in the details of our life. To think the creator and sovereign ruler of the universe would pay attention to our requests – about the trivialities of our lives – is humbling and exciting. That we can call the Almighty, “Father” is wonderful beyond description.
This week our diocese comes to electing a new Archbishop. Synod will be meeting for a few nights to try to come to agreement about who it should be. It is not the most important decision we ever make, but it is a decision we have to make and it does affect many aspects of church life. In particular it affects us, as the Cathedral church – i.e. the seat of the bishop of the diocese.
So this week is an important time for prayer. We want God to bless our decision, and that overriding our desires, he will appoint the man he thinks best suits his plans for our diocese. So please pray for …”

“The Pernambuco Court of Appeal … has stayed a lower court decision giving ownership of church properties in the state to the minority faction loyal to the national Anglican Episcopal Church of Brazil (IEAB). The effect of last week’s decision is to return custody of the church properties to the Diocese of Recife and its bishop, the Rt. Rev. Miguel Uchôa, while the court conducts a de novo review of the dispute.”

When the Pope spoke of a gay Catholic who ‘seeks the Lord’ he was speaking of a gay person who is seeking to live in faithfulness to Catholic moral teaching. …”
