Archbishop-Elect Dr. Glenn DaviesThe Anglican Church League warmly congratulates Archbishop-Elect Glenn Davies on his election as the 12th Archbishop of Sydney and assures him, and his wife Dianne, of our prayers and support as we together seek to win Sydney for Christ.

We look forward to a continued strong relationship with Archbishop Davies, who is also an Emeritus Vice President of the League. Dr. Davies will be installed as Archbishop on Friday 23rd August in St. Andrew’s Cathedral.

Russell Powell at SydneyAnglicans.net has more on the election.

Canon Rick SmithHere is the statement made this evening to the Sydney Synod by Canon Rick Smith on moving the motion that Bishop Glenn Davies be invited to become Archbishop of Sydney:

“The role of Archbishop has been variously described in recent months, all descriptions beyond the capacity of any mere mortal.

Glenn, and Di, will need… as well as our prayers… our patience, our support, our love.

So, our first responsibility now is to pray for Glenn… that he will… with the strength and wisdom that only God can give… be enabled to serve and shepherd, love and listen to this wonderful Diocese.

I know that parts of this process have been characterized by tension – as will always be the case in a political process. But it has been my great joy that through this process the friendship or fellowship that Glenn and I enjoy has not been impacted at all.

So, I urge, that Together… recognizing God’s Sovereign care of His people… Together… dependent on God’s power that accomplishes His purposes… Together… at the foot of the cross… may we ALL seek to exalt Jesus Christ our crucified savior and risen Lord… as we proclaim the gospel; as we share a word of light in darkness, a word of forgiveness of sin, depth amidst superficiality, hope amidst despair, and service amidst selfishness.

May God give us… not what we deserve… but in His mercy grant us love, faithfulness and fruitfulness to His glory alone.

PSALM 121

I lift my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip – he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you – the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life… the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
