Archbishop Davies writes:

“I am calling on all Sydney Anglicans and our friends across Australia representing many Christian traditions and denominations to urgent prayer and sacrificial generosity for two terrifying humanitarian crises unfolding in our world today.

Christians and other minority groups being killed and persecuted by IS in Iraq

As IS continues its evil rampage through Iraq, killing men, women and children, wiping out towns and villages, demanding that Christians recant their faith under threat of death, causing unimaginable terror and suffering, I am calling for urgent prayer for our brothers and sisters in Christ, as well as other persecuted minority groups, against whom these atrocities are being committed.

I have also launched an emergency appeal through my aid agency, The Archbishop of Sydney’s Anglican Aid, to provide emergency funding for food and shelter through our long established and trusted partners in the Middle East. Please give generously to this appeal.

Men, women and children suffering from famine and starvation in South Sudan

Only a week ago I launched the South Sudan Meals for Meal Appeal asking us either to forgo a dining out meal during the month of August (nominal value of $50) or simply donate an equivalent amount to provide seed and agricultural assistance to enable South Sudanese people, disrupted and displaced by civil war, to cultivate and plant their summer crop to prevent or alleviate a major famine later this year.

Please give generously to one or both of these appeals and do uphold our brothers and sisters in Christ in this time of dire need.

Grace and Peace

Glenn N Davies
Archbishop.”

– And, in a letter to Sydney churches, Anglican Aid’s David Mansfield writes:

“Anglican Aid, as the Archbishop’s aid agency, has launched an appeal to provide emergency funding for food and shelter through our long-established and trusted partners in the Middle East. Please give generously to this appeal. … Attached also is a Powerpoint slide if required for your announcements during services.”
